Welcome to the Ultimate Coaching Series by ITD World in partnership with the world’s top coaching gurus. Come with us in this series as we explore the whys and hows of coaching to help you unleash people’s potential.
For this edition we will explore two elements for successful coaching. The first is element Why the Belief in the Human Potential for Greatness is such a powerful belief to unlock the inherent power of others.
Human development guru Zig Ziglar said, “Man was designed for accomplishment, engineered for success, and endowed with the seeds of greatness.” This means anyone, and everyone, has the seeds of success already within them. The next step is to tap, draw out and nurture that seed to grow.
This means the coach must believe every person is a uniquely valuable individual with the potential for greatness. Everyone is uniquely special and can manifest their destiny in their own way.
People are inspired and uplifted to reach for greater heights when someone strongly believes in them. Why is this belief so powerful? The faith you have for others can be used as a stepping stone for them to work towards their goals.
Thinks about this saying, “Belief is more than a thought that a person possesses; it is a thought that possesses the person.” This shows positive belief enables and motivates others to make their dreams reality.
The more you, as a coach, believes in the potential of people to achieve great things, the more reasons people will give you to believe in them. Having someone believe in you and you believing in their great potential is tremendously uplifting and enriching. Such faith is rewarded when you and the person you are coaching are inspired to grow and become the best versions of yourselves.
The second element for successful coaching is Fulfilment Flows From Adding Value to Others. This is why a coach coaches others. Greek philosopher Aristotle said, “Where your talent and the needs of the world cross, your calling can be found.”
Applying this to coaching mean coaches see drawing out the human potential as a clarion call to serve the greater good. Great coaches do not treat coaching like a job; they treat coaching as a calling.
The greater good you find in coaching others is by adding value to them. Coaching helps people in achieving goals, overcoming problems, learn and develop, install new beliefs, habits and experiencing fulfilment in life.
Many have achieved success, money and fame but do not feel fulfilled. Why? They are not serving the greater good. Feeling fulfilled comes in the service of an end that is bigger than yourself.
This can be seen in the lives of many prominent people. People like Nelson Mandela, Albert Schweitzer and Mother Teresa have made a lasting impact on the world.
These are the people who have made the greatest difference because they understood the significance of adding value to others. A coach feels fulfilled by positively benefitting the lives of those around them.
