BIOGRAPHY

Kathleen Ong is both an active practitioner and researcher in the art and science of Human Resource Development (HRD). Her current position as the Director (Learning & Development) of the Institute of Training and Development (ITD Group) places her right in the middle of the most rapidly growing region. She travels widely to Vietnam, Bangkok and Manila. This provides her the perfect setting for the observation of and participation in the large-scale upgrading of intellectual human capital.

Prior to that, Kathleen worked as the centre manager with MITD Johor Bahru. She also served as a administrator with the Asian Regional Training and Development Organisation (ARTDO). ARTDO was founded in the early 1970's as an umbrella organisation for the various groups and organisation interested in the advancement and coordination of HR development in the Asia-Pacific region - a cause to which she still subscribes.

Kathleen received her formal education at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), where she was conferred a Bachelor's degree in Economics . Subsequently she completed her Msc in Training & Human Resource Management, University Of Leicester in July 1996. Some of the researches done by Kathleen are as follows; 'Top Management's attitudes towards Training through the Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF) - The Case of the Manufacturing Industry in Johor', 'Role of Corporate culture in Human Resource Management' and 'Globalization-It's Impact on The Work of HRD Professionals'.

Since October 1993, Kathleen has been an active member of the Johor Bahru Toastmasters Club, a public speaking club. Besides giving public presentations she has also held the post of the Vice President of membership with the Johor Bahru Toastmasters Club. She has attained the award of Competent Toastmaster (CTM), Advance Toastmaster (ATM-B) as well as Competent Leader (CL) from Toastmasters International, Mission Viejo, California, USA (Public Speaking). She had conducted workshops in Bangkok for the Toastmasters. The workshops were 'Powerful Presentation Skills', 'Powerful Evaluation Skills' and 'Train The Trainer'. Together with Mario del Castillio, she had co-facilitated the Train The Trainer for Celestica Malaysia Sdn. Bhd, and Train the Trainer public programme of which participants were from Intel, Motorola, Seagate as well as Eastern Garment. The other Train the Trainer programs were for DHL and UMW.

Kathleen is also one of the co-facilitator for the ARTDO-International ITD Certified Training Professional (CTP) program.

Kathleen developed the 'Creating Synergistic Work Teams' training program and so far this program has been conducted very successfully especially in corporations in Johor Bahru. Besides training, she also believes very much in doing her part for society by being a member of the Women Centre for Change in Penang.

In Aug 2007, Kathleen attended Jack Canfield's 7-day BREAKTHROUGH TO SUCCESS program in Arizona and found her LIFE PURPOSE. Her LIFE PURPOSE is to 'Inspire & Empower Children & Adults through Training & Development'. She is now a certified trainer for Jack Canfield's 'PERSONAL EXCELLENCE & THE SUCCESS PRINCIPLES' training program. Having met and worked with the Leadership Guru, John C Maxwell personally in June 2008 was another breakthrough for her. She now aspires to share the work of Maxwell with Leaders in the AP region.

Kathleen has also been extensively involved in EQ work with Dr Leonard Yong, the author and originator of the Leonard Personality Inventory. Dr. Yong has coached and mentored her in the last 10 years and she is currently a Certified LPI consultant under the Institute of Training and Development. In April 2008, Kathleen was certified by Thomas G Crane, the author of the 'Heart of Coaching' model book and is now a facilitator for the 'Heart of Coaching' training.
